Our Wines
Howling Bluff is dedicated to growing our own grapes and then making the wine only from those grapes.
We produce 3 wines:
Howling Bluff Estate Sauvignon Blanc: this wine comes from 4 separate plantings situated around our 20 acre vineyard. The plantings are; 1 acre of Sauvignon Blanc planted in 2004, a small 1/3 acre plot planted in 2006, another 1/3 acre plot planted in 2008 and a 1/2 acre of Semillon planted in 2008
Howling Bluff Estate Pinot Noir: this wine comes from two separate plots, 1 acre planted in 2004 and another acre planted in 2008.
Howling Bluff Estate Sin Cera: this wine comes from 8 separate plantings throughout our vineyard. A 2 acre planting of Merlot in 2004, a 1/4 acre planting of Malbec in 2005, a 1/4 acre planting of Cabernet Franc in 2005, a 1/8 acre planting of Merlot in 2005, a 1/3 acre of Malbec planted in 2007, a 1/3 acre of Cabernet Franc planted in 2007, a 1/3 acre of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2007 and 1/4 acre of Petite Verdot planted in 2008.
Our whites are fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks while our reds are aged in premium new French oak and select second fill barrels.
Our winemaker is Garron Elmes, the award wining wine maker at Lake Breeze vineyards.
Sauvignon Blanc
Planted in 2004 at our Summa Quies vineyard,
the impressive 2006 growing season helped to produce a vintage that we are
very proud of.
Our award winning winemaker Garron Elms describes our first release this
way:
"A clean, crisp and fresh white wine. Fermented cold in 100% stainless steel
in order to maximize the varietal character. Flavours and aromas of
tropical fruits alongside typical grassy, vegetal notes and hints of
gooseberry."
Our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, with only 130 cases made, has a fresh palate of grassy, herbal and mineral
flavours that are round, crisp, dry and refreshing with notes of lemon
grass, gooseberry and citrus. A tangy aperitif on its own, it will
also pair well with fish, salads and cheeses, especially chevré. And
it's great with sushi!

Reviews for our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc: Anthony Gismondi
86/100 Howling Bluff Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
Third year vines are the engine for this stainless steel fermented
sauvignon from Naramata. The nose is clean, with plenty of green apple
skin and gooseberry notes. Piercing acidity carries the mid-palate with a
crisp tangy, slightly herbaceous mouth-watering finish. Best with oysters
or goat cheese to tame the acidity. A pretty good start for a wine that
is much more serious than its label.
